The Shanti Bhavan Children's Project is a residential school in rural Baliganapalli, India, two hours outside of Bangalore. It is the subject of the Netflix documentary Daughters of Destiny. I learned about SB during my tenure as the President of the Indian Cultural Exchange at Oxford College of Emory University when the Dean of Campus Life encouraged me to apply to volunteer with them. The school provides a free education to children from the lowest caste in India, including housing, meals, and medical care. I spent six weeks in Baliganapalli during the summer of 2019 as both a Media and Teaching Volunteer where my responsibilities included taking photos, shooting fundraising and promotional videos, posting to social media channels, and teaching English and Social Studies. While at SB, I also created a pitch deck that is still used for fundraising for the school. Shanti Bhavan means "A Haven of Peace," and I hope to return to the beautiful haven to volunteer again after graduation in May.

A postcard I made for our volunteer cohort at the end of the summer.
